BEST MOUNTAIN BIKING IN PARK CITY

Residents of Park City, Utah, are never at a loss for outdoor activities. And that’s especially true when it comes to mountain biking.

Get this: Park City is one of only a handful of locations designated as a Gold-Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). That’s impressive!

With nearly 500 miles of trails throughout Park City, there’s something new to experience every time you jump on the saddle. From high mountains to more leisurely rides, you can find the perfect ride each time.

TOP PARK CITY MOUNTAIN BIKING DESTINATIONS

If you’re interested in the best of the best, these five Park City mountain biking destinations are a good place to start.

1. Lost Prospector

Don’t let the name scare you. Lost Prospector is one of the most enjoyable mountain biking trails in Park City, thanks to its top-notch views of nature and the city as a whole.

It doesn’t matter if you ride the entire 7.8-mile loop or bike out and back — you’re sure to enjoy the views. And for those who are new to single-track mountain biking, it’s the perfect jumping-off point.
Tip: Park at White Pine Touring and use the Rail Trail and Skid Row to reach Lost Prospector. This is the most convenient way to access the trail.

2. Flagstaff Loop

Even more than Lost Prospector’s, Flagstaff Loop’s views are world-class. From the open land to views of Mt. Timpanogos, you’ll find it difficult to keep your eyes on the trail (but make sure you do).

The Flagstaff Loop is an intermediate-advanced route, thanks to a handful of technical sections along with some steep climbing.
Tip: You can’t access Flagstaff Loop directly from Deer Valley Resort’s Silver Lake area. You first need to take the Mid Mountain Trail to Team Big Bear. This will eventually lead you to your destination.

3. Flying Dog

If you enjoy climbing and descending on your mountain bike, Flying Dog is the trail for you. Located in the Glenwild area of Park City, Flying Dog is good for a 10-mile out and back trip or a 23-mile loop.

There’s a lot to like, including the steady yet challenging climb and various curves and dips. Add this to a relatively smooth single-track, and you have a winner.
Tip: You can access Flying Dog via the Bad Apple Trailhead or the Spring Creek Trailhead.

4. Wasatch Crest Trail

Yet another trail with top-of-the-line views, you’ll fall in love with the Wasatch Crest Trail and its panoramic view of the Wasatch Mountain range.

Wasatch Crest Trail isn’t for the weak of heart. It requires dedication, strong physical fitness, and the ability to ascend and descend in a technical manner.  With only a handful of intersecting trails, there are not many places along the route to change your mind. You’re either all in or all out!
Tip: One of the most unique features of Wasatch Crest Trail is the decision you must make roughly halfway through your trip. Will you take the trail that leads you into Mill Creek Canyon, or will you head for Park City’s Canyons Village area?

5. The Holy Roller

The name may be intimidating, but don’t let that deter you from tackling the Holy Roller. You’ll enjoy the five miles of easy riding through the aspens, along with the 1,300-foot descent that’s more challenging than many people expect.

As part of the Deer Valley Resort trail system, the Holy Roller is far from the only trail in the area. Use it as a warm-up for a more challenging ride, to test your descending skills, or simply to enjoy nature.
Tip: Of all the mountain biking trails on this list, the Holy Roller is among the easiest to access.
