FALL IN PARK CITY: BEST EVENTS
PARK CITY FALL
There’s something truly special about Park City during the fall. The temperatures cool down, the summer vacation crowds go home, and the leaves take on gorgeous, fiery colors. Although our autumn is short, there are still plenty of ways to take advantage of the crisp weather and natural beauty of this mountain paradise.
In addition to the perpetual opportunities for recreation in the Park City area, the region is well known for its first-class fall festivals and events. Keep reading as we cover the very best Park City festivals that you’ll want to check out this year and every autumn season.
EXPLORE THE PARK CITY FARMERS MARKET
Cooler weather brings the peak of fall harvest and the anticipation of hearty soups, stews, and baked goods. What better way to indulge your taste buds than by visiting the Park City Farmers Market? From honey crisp apples and sweet potatoes to beets, squash, and rutabaga, you can stock up on autumnal produce for healthy eating all the way through Thanksgiving. By shopping for locally grown food, you can also feel good about stimulating the Park City economy and preserving nearby farms. Park City’s seasonal outdoor market is held every Wednesday and runs through the end of October.
VISIT THE AUTUMN ALOFT FESTIVAL
Celebrate the beauty of a balloon-filled sunset sky at the annual Autumn Aloft Festival. The event takes place every September, creating an enchanting backdrop to the already stunning vistas of the Park City region. Hot air balloonists from all over the world visit Park City to show off their special hot air balloons. And although it’s a viewing-only event, private rides are available to set up outside of festival hours.
After sunset, take the whole family to the candlestick event on Park City’s Historic Main Street for an up-close look at the baskets and to learn how the balloons are held aloft by extreme heat. This free event takes place September 18–19, 2021, at Park City’s North 40 Playing Fields and is free for spectators.
TAKE IN THE FALL FOLIAGE
This event may not have a specific date or location, but it’s a can’t-miss experience that happens every autumn. Fall is said to be the shortest season in Park City, so you’ll want to make sure and get out early enough to see the fiery-colored foliage at its peak — usually by the very end of September.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Wasatch mountain range with a spectacular hike. Summit Park’s Over Easy Trail, McLeod Creek Trail, Iron Canyon Trail, and Fantasy Ridge offer some of the best experiences and most jaw-dropping views you can imagine. And don’t forget to bring your camera!
RAISE YOUR GLASS AT THE PARK CITY WINE FESTIVAL
Ready to indulge your love for wine? Sip, savor, and mingle your way through artisanal food and wine from hundreds of purveyors. The three-day weekend is packed with master demos and education about food and wine, as well as unique vino-approved events such as the Trails and Tannins hike.
Want to stretch the culinary experience even further? Stay an extra day to indulge in the Grand Tasting event on Saturday, October 4, for a truly epicurean adventure.
GET SPOOKED ON A GHOST TOUR
Before Park City was known as a world-class ski town and vacation destination, it was a silver mining town that nearly faded into history as a ghost town — and some say the ghosts still linger here. To get into the Halloween spirit, explore Park City’s darker side with a Park City Ghost Tour. On this 75-minute adventure, you’ll get a historic look at Park City's unique mining history and hear the chilling tales of the people who lived and died in the historic homes and buildings along the way.
Tours leave every day from Miner's Park and make their way down Main Street, inviting you along for a spooky trip into the culture and history of this storied mountain town.
