PARK CITY DURING SUNDANCE
SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL: THE CROWN JEWEL OF PARK CITY EVENTS
Park City, Utah, is already home to some of the nation’s most stunning backdrops. With jaw-dropping vistas and never-ending recreational activities, people flock here from all over the country to experience the pristine beauty and serenity of the great West.
But every January, they also make plenty of time for cultural and artistic celebration — namely, the Sundance Film Festival. If you’re a film and arts buff, in addition to being an adventurer or nature lover (or both) there’s no better time to visit Park City than during the annual Sundance Festival.
WHAT IS THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL?
In the late 1960s, beloved actor and activist Robert Redford bought Utah land amid the Wasatch Mountains that’s now known as Sundance. Inspired by the beauty of this natural utopia, he decided it was the perfect hub for environmental conservation and artistic experimentation — and many other writers, directors, actors and artists felt the same. Over the years, Sundance has become a place where “art, nature, and commerce unite to inspire and develop people, voices, and ideas.” It’s helmed by a passionate community who appreciates the beauty of nature and the importance of the arts, and feels a responsibility to preserve it.
Today, Sundance is best known as the world-famous film arts festival organized by the Sundance Institute. It takes place each January in Park City while also offering events in Salt Lake City and at the Sundance Resort. It’s planned as an 11-day, in-person event that will offer an online presence in addition to the regularly scheduled live programming in 2022. The lineup includes various dramatic, documentary, and short films, while also showcasing multimedia installations, performances, filmmaker conversations, panel discussions, and live music events. In other words, it’s one of the most happening occasions you’ll find in the Beehive State — or anywhere else in the country!

Golfing. Whether you’re a novice or golf pro, you’ll be teeing off at some of the most impressive golf courses in the nation here in Park City. With more than 15 golf courses — including the esteemed Park City Golf Club, Park Meadows Golf Club, and Canyons Golf Course — you’ll want to extend your stay just to take advantage of all the available green. And the best part about Park City’s seven public and eight private courses? They’re all just minutes away, which means you’ll have plenty of time to spend all day on the fairway before heading out for a night of Sundance culture and activity.
Hiking & biking. Park City, Utah, is well known for being one of the most hiker-friendly places in the world, thanks to its stunning views and 600+ miles of nonmotorized recreational trail.
